summer worksheets travel

Summer vacations always bring back the fondest memories of me as a child. From waiting in lines to book the train tickets to planning things a lot in advance to stocking up on the best comics and books at the railway station, the memory is fresh with memories from the various holidays we experienced as a child.

Cut to today’s times. Travel still sounds a lot more exciting than it used to be. But there is the added responsibility of engaging the kids when we plan the travel. Not just the little ones and toddlers, but also the older kids, ‘coz they need to feel invested to enjoy something and that, my friends, is the biggest challenge for us, as parents!

Whether you are planning a short weekend getaway, a long journey to an exotic destination, or planning a fun trip with the Grandparents, there are so many ways to keep the kids engaged and busy!

Get them involved in the planning!

Surprise works great, but not always. Kids need all the information beforehand, so they are in the right mindset to enjoy that. They could help you plan the itinerary and you could look up some tourist destinations together, so they feel involved.  You could even encourage them to keep some things as souvenirs or to click pictures and make a scrapbook or start a travel log. There’s so much they could do!

Some days, I get pulled back into those nostalgic times when I stumble upon my scrapbook from my holidays while cleaning the house. It’s pure bliss! From Zoo tickets to stamps and souvenirs collected in the travel, I have treasured them all. Let them fall in love with the world too.

Keep them engaged academically too!

When you travel, it’s all about travel for your kids. So, if you expect them to open any books that remind them of school… You are sadly very wrong my friend! As parents, I understand we need to keep those concepts alive in our kid’s memories. But to make them open their books when they are out in a very enjoyable place… seems a little cruel.

So how do we ensure our kids are engaged while they are entertained?

Worksheets!

Activity Worksheets are simple, engaging, short and most importantly fun to solve! They are just papers, so you can carry them anywhere. (No additional weight too!) One worksheet a day and that’s all you need. Sometimes math, sometimes colouring or sometimes geography, since they are already travelling. In this way, it’s not burdensome, boring and they are keeping their minds fresh. You could solve it with them too! Make some fond memories in the process.

Hewlett Packard’s PLC (Print Learn Center) campaign aims to make learning more interactive for children from 3-12 years with their range of activity worksheets and learning resources designed by India’s leading early-years educationalists. On the PLC website, you will find paper-pencil-based activities and tasks that help children improve their understanding and application of concepts.

The team at PLC in talks with senior educationalists and early-year educators have designed fun, activity worksheets that are apt for children, right from kindergarteners to busy tweens who are handling multiple subjects! These are designed on the LAR framework (Learn- Apply- Resolve). This unique approach enables your children to understand basic concepts, retain them in long-term memory and apply them when called upon.

Bonus! They have their special set of worksheets, especially for travel purposes. With topics consisting of colouring, story-telling, brain games, Indian states, values & etiquettes and so much more! The activities are really interesting and fun to do! Who said learning on the go would be boring?
