The world over everyone is excited to witness the annual Solar Eclipse today- known as the Ring Of Fire, we are not going to witness a lot of this again, right?! But among the excited lot who will be running to the balconies with their camera to witness the spectacle, the ones who will clearly miss out on this are the expectant mommies. From time immemorial we have been listening to the popular pregnancy myths surrounding the eclipse and pregnancy and how a pregnant mom shouldn’t step out during the eclipse.

There have been no major scientific backings to these myths. But they continue to penetrate generations and over time, there is hardly resistance to these myths!

We list the most popular myths you will be hearing from your mom/grandmother during this day- tell us in the comments below how many (if not all!) were actually told to you this morning!

Here Are Some Things You Must Avoid:

1. Avoid eating anything during the eclipse.

This one is not just for expectant mommies but for everyone (sob, sob!)

2. Don’t step outside during the eclipse duration and if indoors, stay away from the windows.

Stepping out apparently is known to cause deformities to your baby- again there is no proof backing this.

3. Take a shower after the eclipse.

We are not going to debate this, ‘coz a bath before bedtime actually helps the expectant mom sleep well!

4. Do not touch sharp objects during the eclipse.

Coming in contact with sharp objects like a knife, scissors etc can cause your baby to have a cleft lip or birthmarks, they say.

5. Don’t cook during the eclipse and also don’t consume food cooked before the eclipse. Cook fresh food after the eclipse.

Some believe that the food pre-cooked or cooked while the eclipse is on undergoes deterioration during the eclipse and can turn poisonous to the mom (really, how?!)
