Here we list some of the popular old wives tales (both desi and International) that help predict if you are having a boy or a girl. If you are a believer- then go ahead, read them and let us know what these predictions have in store for you! If you don’t believe in them- still do read them for a hearty laugh!

1. Sweet vs Salt

This one is famous world over. If you crave more for sweet treats- you are probably having a girl, they say. And if you love snacks and salty savouries- it’s probably a boy. What about people who felt hungry perennially- and could devour sweet and salty treats?! Waiting for an answer.

2. The Low vs High Bump:

Now this one is another common judgement from anybody in the vicinity of an expectant mom.  If your baby bump is said to be high- you are welcoming home an adorable girl and if it is low- you are a proud mom to a smart boy, they say. Really?!

3. The Tired Mom’s Looks:

We’ve all heard of the pregnancy glow and how moms acquire it within a few weeks into the pregnancy journey. Well, did you know that if you looked tired and dull- the morning sickness or the hormones aren’t just at play- it means you are probably carrying a boy and if you are chirpy, looking more beautiful than before, then, congrats! You are going to be a mom to a beautiful girl! (Wondering how I had a girl, in spite of the terrible morning sickness that made me look like an alien!)

4. A Math Puzzle For The Confused Minds:

Okay, if you are going to try this out- we suggest you sit down and take a paper and pen. (My math isn’t very strong!) It is said that if you combine your age at the time of conception with the number of the month you conceived- and if the answer- you are probably carrying a girl and if it’s even- it is a boy! (Ok, this one came right for me!)

5. One for the Tresses: The right skin and hair care during pregnancy is crucial for every expectant mom. But did you know that if your hair is all thick and shiny and brimming with life during your pregnancy- chances are high that it’s a boy and if you are one among those who are facing a hair fall issue and the tresses are no longer thick and shiny- then, it’s a girl?!

6. Heart Rate Logic:

We don’t know if there is any science backing up this fact, but it is said that if the heart rate of the child is at a breakneck speed (ok, not very high, but > 140 beats per minute!), then it is probably a girl you are expecting and if it’s lower than 140 beats per minute- it is a baby boy.

7. What’s in a ring?

Legend has it that if you tie a ring to a piece of thread (preferably your wedding ring) and allow it to dangle over your belly- the way it sways predicts your baby’s gender. If it swings in a circular motion- it is a girl and if it sways like a pendulum- it is going to be a boy. Seems like a physics lab experiment isn’t it?!

8. Interpretation of Dreams:

What are dreams? A reflection of what’s running through your mind when you are awake, apparently? This old wives tale conveys just the opposite. If you often get dreams of a carrying a baby boy- the final reveal is probably going to be a girl and vice versa!

9. Frequent Headaches:

It is said that if you experience frequent headaches when you are expecting- chances are high that it’s a boy and if you are lucky enough to escape them- then it’s a girl! (Word of caution- girl or boy- when they grow up to be toddlers, the headaches are here to stay!)

10. Preferred side to sleep on:

A very famous old wives tale has it that if you prefer to sleep on your right often during your pregnancy, it is going to be a boy and if the left side is your preferred one, it is a girl. Left or right- sleep all that you want during this period- ‘coz once they are born- sleep becomes a luxury!
