I am quite sure all of us wonder as moms whether its actually worth taking our kids to the only zoo that the city of Mumbai can boast off. Honestly it took me 18 months after my daughter was born to visit the zoo. A lot of apprehensions about the place, hygiene condition, sanitation, amount of animals to see, etc. But when I finally did I was happy with my decision. Here’s why and this is a quality all of us must imbibe from our children, don’t be judgmental. Everything is beautiful. They don’t differentiate between a zoo in London or Singapore to that in India. For them its that moment and seeing the animals that draws them pleasure. So make that effort and do visit it. It was a Sunday morning that we went to the zoo with our friends, getting there was easy as we pooled in and went by a cab. Most Mumbai cabbies are aware of the space so its really not that difficult. Parents who would like to take their cars please do so there is ample parking available. Just when you enter the premises you witness the grandeur of the British architecture with a big Gate & the V&A museum to the left. Get your tickets at a nominal price and head right in as the tiger awaits you. Animals to see: Elephants, Tigers, Cheetahs, Deers, Hippos, lots of different species of birds, fishes and monkeys. Yes the hygiene conditions are really poor with a lot of people spitting around and the cages are quite stinky & messy. The birds seem to have been all stuffed together in the same cage. The elephants enclosure was so far that the kids struggled to spot the elephants with barely any water around. They have so much space that you actually wish they did more with the space than the way it currently is. Yes we have all seen better zoos and this one has enough scope for improvement but none the less its worth a visit. The children sure had a good time and considering how far the Sanjay Gandhi National Park is! This may be your only hope to take them to see animals. Review: Worth a visit To Carry: Water Bottle, Caps/Hats, Snacks to last your children for a good 2 hours, Sanitizer, Camera & a stroller Clothing: Light cotton, preferably tights & tee or pants that cover their legs in case of any bites, allergies.
