When you think of dates, you think of the dried khajoor. But did you know that fresh dates are also available and are super tasty and healthy? Fresh dates are sweet with a little tartness and juicy. They are actually healthier and more packed with nutrients than the dried dates as the moisture has not been dried out.

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar tells us all about the benefits of adding dates to your diet – whether fresh or dried.

It’s a date! The rains wash away all that is old and bring not just fresh beginnings but also fresh dates. Celebrated since time immemorial as the boosters of fertility, immunity and sensitivity, these little beings are worthy of their weight in gold. Fibre – the perfect mix of the soluble and insoluble, it will keep constipation, bloating and irritability away. Minerals – Calcium and Magnesium that let you sport a toned look, help cut down the flab and ensure that you stay away from midnight cramps. Vitamin rich – will prevent skin damage, repair frizzy hair and the B6 will keep your mood in a great place. How much is too much? On a trip to Jordan i learnt the golden Arabic rule- eat the second date only if you can eat the third one. So in that land it’s not allowed to stop at 2, you have to eat the third or the fifth or the seventh. So if you feel that you can eat 2 but not 3, then the Arab culture says, stop at 1. Much like the Mitahar concept of Hatha Yoga Pradipika, developing the sensitivity to leave the stomach half empty/ half full and sharing the the bounty with the world. Happy Dates peoples. â_x009d_¤ï¸_x008f_â_x009d_¤ï¸_x008f_â_x009d_¤ï¸_x008f_
