Be it Indian Idol Junior or Junior Masterchef having a Star Baby is every mother’s dream. With more and more kids joining television shows it made us wonder that having Star kids in the Television Industry may not be all that easy. From keeping toys on the sets to shooting with dolls when the kid is not “in the mood to shoot”, here’s how the producers make TV stars out of these toddlers.
Rules for shooting with toddlers
According to Gajendra Chauhan, the Vice President of Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA ) Â the production houses have to follow rules while starring kids in their program which are:
- Toddlers cannot shoot for more than one hour at a stretch and for more than six hours a day
- One of the parents has to be present on the sets at all times
- All these rules are laid out in the agreement signed between the parents and the production house
- There should be all kinds of facilities available for the kids – proper food, hygiene, books, toys and a clean washroom.
The Audition Process of these little stars
The audition is also a well planned process where the kids are evaluated and them selected for the role that they will be playing. The selectors see if the kids are camera friendly, comfortable around people and not prone to being cranky or throwing tantrums. A health check up is also done.
Two-hour shifts for toddlers
A lot of patience is required on the part of the director and actor when they’re shooting with toddlers. There are times when the child is not in the mood to shoot, the actors shoot the scenes in which they are not needed at all. Therefore the play area comes of good use to keep kids occupied in the middle of shots.
 The mother is always around
For a baby star the minimum requirement is the mother. Every producer ensures that a parent with the child is on the sets, preferably the mother, This really makes the work easier for the production house as the baby is comfortable.
Dolls instead of kids when there’s a safety risk
When the kids are not available for shooting, dolls are used in their place. But this happens only when the shoot can be managed by taking long shots and when close-ups are not required of the child. Production houses also ensure that the kid’s health is not put at risk.
Now the times have changed where kids are also choosing to be superstars instead of the conventional doctors, lawyers and teachers. So mom now you know what to do to star your talented young ones in the next show on TV!
