As a new mom, the first thing you look forward to is seeing your little one’s face. Well, after that follows a whole lot of responsibilities, breastfeeding topping the list. No matter how much we read up, listen or hear, when it comes to feeding our newborn for the first time, we either get too overwhelmed or things just don’t pan out the way we thought it would.

This was precisely what happened to this mom too. Artist Joy Hwang describes her struggles with mommyhood and breastfeeding with this witty line:

“One of the hardest assignments I received as a new mom was to keep my baby alive with my boobs!”

Like most other moms, she too thought it would come to her naturally, but then she realised was wrong. After helplessly crying alongside her daughter she took art to her advantage and put pencil to paper, creating surreal depictions of her testing times. “It helped me to connect with my baby through the only way I knew how,” said Hwang, who posts her art on her Mom Is Drawing account on Facebook and Instagram.

Since I’ve started nursing, there are lists of rules & test that my clothes must pass. Like… Q: How do I get my boob out? One of our favorite is – is it stretchy? Also must not make me look fat… ? Anyone else doing this? … . . . . . . . . . . . . #boobaccess #shoppingwithbaby #postpartum #postpartumclothes #brelfie #normalizebreastfeeding #nursingmom #freethenipple #motherhood #mumlife #mommyblogger #parenthood #momcomic #illustrator #illustration #pumpingmama #pencildrawing #socal #momisdrawing #아기스타그램 #ì_x009d_¸ìŠ¤íƒ€ë² ì_x009d_´ë¹„ #instababy #육아ì_x009d_¼ê¸° #육아소통 #momlife #mommyandme #instamama #instamom #motherhoodthroughinstagram #parentinglikewhoa

Dream feed ✨ nursing through the night✨ Around 2am & 6am, I will hear a baby shuffling through my bed looking for comfort. Sometimes she will wake me up, but most of the time I’ll be taking a break from work and called back into present. My previous goal was to nurse her for a year. Now that we reached the milestone, it’s hard for me to think about weaning. I love when she latches on to me and find instant calm. I love the face of joy she makes when she’s nourished by the same body that made her. There are so many emotions going rushing through my mind, but for now I want to stay here and hold this moment little bit longer – while she fits perfectly on my lap, and we are each other’s whole world. ? . . . . . . #dreamfeed #brelfie #normalizebreastfeeding #nursingmom #freethenipple #motherhood #mumlife #mommyblogger #parenthood #longestshortesttime #illustration #sketchbook #drawing #ipadpro #momisdrawing #instababy #육아ì_x009d_¼ê¸° #breastfeedingart #newmama #breastfeedingart #motherhoodart #instamama #instamom #beherenow #slowdown #doula #lactationconsultant #motherhoodthroughinstagram
