Separation anxiety refers to the fear or distress children feel when they are away from their primary caregivers, usually parents. While it’s normal for young kids to experience this as they develop attachments, excessive anxiety during separation can be a cause for concern. According to Vidya Panicker, separation anxiety often peaks between the ages of 6 months and 3 years, but it can sometimes persist longer, especially during big transitions like starting school.
