It has been a rainy week, across the country. With unprecedented rains flooding Mumbi, Delhi, Chennai and other parts of the country have also been experiencing a steady rainfall. The minute I plan a game of football with my child in the park, the skies turn dark and she starts singing, “rain rain go away!” Engaging them indoors all week long is certainly impossible. Check out the list of indoor play areas in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi, you can visit with your kids. And for the entertainment quotient this week, we tell you why Amole Gupte’s Sniff might be the right way to spend time with your kids in a theatre near you!

Sniff!!!

“Don’t be a nosey parker”- we’ve all been told this many times as kids. Sniff is a story about a young, nosey parker and his adventures. Coming from Amole Gupte, the director of the popular “Stanley ka Dabba” and the creative writer of the widely acclaimed, “Taare Zameen Par”s helms this movie that stars the young Khushmeet Gill, who has given an excellent performance. The story is about how a young school boy solves car-thefts with his special sense of smell.

The life of this little boy, Sunny, with an olfactory nerve disorder, is fed up with not being able to smell anything, takes a drastic change after a chance encounter in the chemistry lab. He is now able to “sniff” clues and events and helps his neighbours by solving car thefts in the society. The children (both the lead hero, and his friends) in the movie are the biggest asset, in terms of screen presence and performances. With an interesting plot, there isn’t any preachy message in the movie as was the case in Amole Gupte’s previous outings, but the writing isn’t too engaging or convincing and there are certain elements that slow down the pace of the movie. But otherwise, this is a good choice for a matinee show with kids in cineplexes this weekend. Happy Sniffing!
