With Spring in full swing, it’s time to change up your winter makeup routine for that fuss-free everyday fresh summer look!

Here are 6 steps to ace that summer look:

Hydrate Your Face

Use a facial mist post washing your face and pat it dry before it air dries off your face. Don’t ever let it air dry as it will zap the moisture from your skin as it dries out thus defeating the purpose of hydration. Immediately apply a lotion to help seal in moisture.  My personal pick for a convenient facial mist is the Forest Essential Facial Mist.

Protect and Prime

Apply a sunscreen of at least SPF 30+ and allow your skin to settle. Opt for a sunscreen that isn’t too whitish as that can interfere with your makeup tone. I like the La Shield Lite Sunscreen Gel or Rivela Sunscreen Gel.

Subsequently, you can apply a primer. A primer is a must even on days you don’t use heavy makeup. Primers prep your skin to ensure your makeup last longer, they even out your skin tone and some are designed to minimize the appearance of pores.

Conceal

Use a concealer to cover your dark circles/ skin pigmentation/ sun spots etc. and blend it into your skin only on those areas. If you have never tried a concealer, please try one for a week especially for those mommy dark circles. It will be a game changer. I promise!

The idea is to keep your makeup light and fresh so you can skip the full coverage look that a foundation gives. L’oreal has a reasonably priced concealer for everyday use and brands such as Bobbi Brown, MAC etc. have great colour matches too.

Lip/ Cheek Stains

When you’re a mom on the go, your aim is to keep it as practical and quick as possible. A lip and cheek stain is convenient enough to dab on your cheeks and lips to give a slight colour but yet easy enough to carry around in your purse for quick touch-ups without any hassle of other makeup brushes. A creamy texture also works best for humid hot climates. Try the Ruby’s Organics Lip and Cheek Stain, Sephora or Smashbox stains in warm coral pink tones.

Light Eye Makeup

Keep your summer look simple by opting for a light eyeshadow over your eyes. Finish the look with a deep brown liner and mascara both in waterproof versions. A Mascara which curls helps to save time and will open your eyes for a bright-eyed look. Keep it light and never forget to brush and even fill in your brows. A lot of beauty experts will tell you that they never leave the house without having their brows done!

Use a Finishing Translucent Powder ( oily skin) / Finishing spray ( dry skin)

Rather than opting for a  foundation compact which can give you a heavier look, opt for using translucent finishing powder or a finishing spray. Translucent powders help to give a matte finish without looking too heavy. A spray also can seal in your makeup and can help give you a dewy look. Both will seal in your makeup for long wear.
