Abhishek Tatiya and Mansi Shah’s Happy Feet Home, the first hospice in India for children suffering from terminal illnesses such as cancer, HIV and thalassemia, in collaboration with the Lokmanya Tilak General Hospital.
Founded by Abhishek Tatiya & Mansi Shah, Happy Feet aims to raise Rs 80 lakh by Feb 2014 and has already started a fund raising exercise on crowdfunding platform indiegogo.com.
Whats it all about?
The Happy Feet Home is the brainchild Concept of Mansi Shah and Abhishek Tatya who want to give good memories to those kids in India who are terminally ill. India having a population of over a billion has many many children that are diagnosed with several incurable diseases and there is not one centre for them to support or help them in such difficult times. This gave Mansi and Abhishek a purpose to start the Happy Feet Home. It is the first hospice exclusively for children and one of its kind in India.
What does it have to offer?
It is a Daycare Hospice that provides various services to kids absolutely free:
- Activities – Recreational and engaging activities will be planned by trained professionals that will be child centric and safe for the children.
- Therapies -Â based on art, music, play and dance will be a part of the daily activities at Happy Feet Home.
- Counseling -Â One–on-One, group and family counseling will be offered at Happy Feet Home.
- Respite Care -Â Allowing a parent to take some time off and relax knowing that their child is in safe hands and is well taken care of.
- Bereavement Support -Â This is extended to the grieving families after the child leaves the world. This helps them to cope up with the loss and move on in life.
The Sion Hospital in Mumbai has partnered with the Happy Feet Home and has agreed to provide them with 1200 sq.ft. of space and medical staff to run the daycare hospice as well as active mentor-ship under Dr. Mamta Manglani (Prof. Head of Pediatrics). The full daycare centre has been designed with colourful themes to create a friendly and cheerful environment for the kids.
