During the vacay, we at home, have been spending a lot of time together. This togetherness brings a grateful prayer to my heart every time I see my children, who are kindhearted & high spirited. When I look at my children, I think to myself countless times about how I can make the world a better place for them? What can I do on a personal basis to make it better for them? Part of my research is chatting and arriving at solutions from the many conversations I have with mommy friends, and of course the many Pinterest boards we have for our children.

On one such Pinterest-y morning I read this: “Make Generosity a part of your growth packageâ€_x009d_ It stuck with me. Generosity how? For the kids? In our current scenario, being generous is only thought about when we make a donation, like when toys are being distributed at an orphanage. Where did Generosity in the day to day life go?

Generosity doesn’t just mean materialistic generosity, it also means being generous with your compliments, being generous while you lend a hand, being generous with something as simple as the welcoming warmth towards a new colleague, a little “Let me know if you need any help?â€_x009d_ or not being the bossy house lady all the time. Having a “Generous environmentâ€_x009d_.

Generosity in all of the above ways is what we are missing during our hectic days when we mindlessly go through our to-do lists, keeping up our social appointments, in the humdrum of achieving personal goals. This is what they miss in school, in their day to day lives, among their own peers. In the competitive mode that their life is set to, they need to be in a better environment that enables them to grow into a holistic being. This is all it takes to convert the normally hostile and stressful environment into a more positive vibe at home or at school or even at the workplace. Simply put, this way of generosity is a tool when used correctly, can wade off the increasing number of depression cases that we find in young children and in the working community.

So let’s make this a daily thing. Let us be generous with the time we spend with our kids and let us teach our children this lesson. Teach them to befriend the new child at school, step up for friends who are bullied, teach them to treat every human, animals and even nature with respect. Understanding that being generous with space, even private space is so necessary. Less criticism, more conversations is a way to improve understanding. Let us be generous with our compliments when our helpers at home get things done right, Lets be generous with our smiles, not just during the selfies with friends but as a meaningful acknowledgement towards someone who passes us by on the street or to that someone who waits on us at the restaurant, to the cabbie who navigates through the busy streets to get us to our destination, and to every such community builder. Let’s set an example by being generous ourselves first. Let’s be generous and giving of our love towards Nature, keep it clean. Let’s be generous in spreading positivity, instead of just being opinionated. Let’s be generous in our care towards the elderly. Let’s teach them to be generous towards themselves even so that they have a shield of a happy, decorated soul that will be affected little by anything that tries to put out the fire in them. Let’s be generous with our appreciation for all those who help us decorate our soul with the sparkle that they add to our lives Because, in the end, generous souls will help make the world a better place for our children to bloom into better humans.
