In our exclusive interview with Sudha Murty (watch the video here), she gave us some golden tips on what we, as parents can do to raise mini bookworms. Give nothing but good books as gifts, for every occasion, she says. To think of it, there cannot be a better habit we inculcate in our kids than the power of reading. Agree?

We earlier shared 12 easy tips to help your kids develop a lifelong love for reading. Just surrounding them with a world of books would not suffice. Here's why discussing what they read is important:

  • As parents, we need to encourage them to think and discuss what they read. Their understanding and purview become clearer to a parent once you do this.
  • We could ask them what they loved most (or did not) in the story they just read that would prompt them to read it better the next time.
  • This way you will also find out if your child really liked the book that helps you plan your next purchase for them. Agree?

How do you spend your book reading sessions with the kids? How many books do you read together in a week? What are the most interesting answers your kids have given when you discuss a book? Share them with us right here in the comments below.

"An Anthology Of Intriguing Animals" by Ben Hoare, published by DK Children is the ideal encyclopedia you need to get your kids if they love animals as you do. With interesting facts and info on over 100 species of animals, you will find this book to be your child's favourite very soon. Buy the book here

What we loved about this book:

It's not just about the usual animals like the lions and tiger and fun facts about them. This book also introduces your kids to animals such as a walrus, pangolin or a lemur and with stunning photographs and fun facts, little animal lovers will find it hard to put this book down. Ideal for kids 7 and above who will understand what they read, this book is also an ideal gift for the younger lot- to get them all intrigued about animals. Sample this- did you know that an elephant can actually look into a mirror and identify itself? Or orcas can swim even when they are half-asleep?! Sounds amazing, right?!
