India, the world’s largest democracy and the fifth-largest economy, stands proud as the most populous country as of June 2023. As the nation gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, there is a fascinating aspect of the voting process that deserves attention: the indelible ink mark on voters’ fingers.

Each time I accompanied my parents to vote, I was curious about the mark that never seemed to come off. Now, my daughter asked me the same question as we voted in Phase 5 of the 2024 elections. This mark is a testament to India’s robust democratic process.

But I couldn’t really answer how this ink is so hard to rub off. And if you are on the same boat, this article is for you.
