The Story Box: Storytelling program for kids in Mumbai

If you have been reading Kidsstoppress for a while then you know that good books, reading and stories is our biggest weakness. While as moms we all know that reading and the world of books is all that our kids need in the formative years we seldom manage to do it. You must read our post on 11 Ways to make your kids love reading and the Art of Story Telling . Like I always say Parenting can never be outsourced, outsource your weaknesses. So if Storytelling is your weakness then you must try - THE STORY BOX.

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

The Story Box has stories that have been sourced from the UK and specially penned down by different authors. Typically worded for children between 3 and a half to 5 years, The Story Box opens new stories, delightfully narrated with bright illustrations and character puppets. This will not only increase your kids listening skills but also helps them to learn new words with great ease.

HOW DOES IT WORK??

The program covers 12 stories, one story a week, spread over approximately 3 months. Each story comes in its own customized box where the images of the story are painted on all sides of the box. This arouses the child’s curiosity as it begins to guess what the story is all about. Thus throwing them into a whole new world of imagination.

The first narration is with a series of illustrations from the story. It goes smoothly like reading a book with pictures. The never-heard-before story is quietly absorbed by the child with wrapped attention. During this narration the children are introduced to new words along the way with the help of story characters that come out of the box as the story progresses. narration is enacted with puppets of characters from the story. By this time, the children already know how the story moves, the names of the characters and they can recall most of the key words.

During the puppet enactment, there is active participation from the children as the story is told. The kids are encouraged for speaking and role playing through this narration.  At the end of each story, the teachers will conduct an activity to teach one concept like the Life Cycle or the Water Cycle etc. Each child takes home a questionnaire and vocabulary sheet from the story; and the activity-based concept sheet in his/ her folder.
