“Boys don’t cry”. For generations, boys have been given certain standards by society that later become part of their life even after growing up to be a man. And parents need to have ‘the talk’ about this.

  • You have to act strong,
  • You can’t cry,
  • You have to earn a lot,
  • You should have firm opinions,
  • Only you have to take care of the family,
  • You should take all the decisions,
  • You should be the one taking care of finances,

So on and so forth. This is what makes a man…

The Change In Mindset:

Now that the concepts of gender equality and mental health and wellness prevail and have been embedded in today’s generation. We need to go over these “standards” once again. Boys can cry and should cry when they feel pressured and overwhelmed. They should feel free to express their emotions without feeling the burden that they are acting out. Taking care of the family is a shared responsibility. Handling finances can be done by both spouses, the same goes for decisions and having opinions.

We need to teach boys, that the ability to express themselves and understand others around them is what will make them a man. And Ayushman Khurrana very beautifully conveys this message. His words will surely touch your heart!

We need to get rid of toxic masculinity and we can do that with joint efforts.
