Activities with ice are just perfect for this weather. The ingredients are available at home and clean up is a breeze! For younger kids, playing with ice and paint helps them work on sensorial development and gross motor skills. Paint with jelly ice cubes by freezing your favourite flavours of jelly. Simply make jelly as per packet instructions and pour it in your favorite mould. stick in an ice cream stick in the middle and let its freeze overnight. It is absolutely safe so you need not worry about your child putting the jelly ice in their mouths.
We totally love these ice excavation activities which not only help your child learn various science concepts but also work on their sensory  and language development skills. This excavation activity can be done using various toys like animals, insects, Lego, cars, letters and dinosaur.
Let your child experience a live volcano with this messy yet super fun activity. The reaction process will surely make your kids excited about the experiment. They will hardly be able to keep their hands away from the erupting volcano.
This is for all the Frozen fans! Collect pink, blue, and purple tidbits from around your house and fill a latex glove with it. Pour in water and secure the glove with a rubber band or a ribbon. It is a great observation activity to see how the gloves get frosted after freezing it overnight. Carefully remove the gloves and watch the let those Frozen hands melt!
Fill a flat tray with water and keep it in the freezer overnight. Take it out the next morning and you have an ice skating rink for toys! A good activity to develop sensory skills and learn hot and cold concepts. Continue to play till the ice melts and observe the changes. Fill a tray with water mixed with food colours and freeze it. Pull out an inflatable pool and drop the tray in the pool and let your toddlers take it from there. They will have a great time observing the colour of pool water change, tracking the slippery ice cubes and exploring with their taste buds.
Fill a tray with edible finger paints and insert a craft stick right in the centre. Slip the tray into the freezer over night so that you have your activity ready by morning. Provide them with thick paper to paint with paintscicles and let your child have a wonderful sensory experience.
Fill some ice cube trays with coloured water, cover them with a cling film and poke toothpick trough it. Slip it in the freezer overnight. When frozen add little paper sails and sail it through a tin foil river. An engaging way to keep your kids entertained on a summer afternoon. An absolute must try!
Rice and Ice Sensory And Rhyming Activity
A simple activity filled with learning and multi-sensory skills development. All you need is a tub filled with rice and multi coloured ice cubes. The child will be able to observe the change in the colour of rice and change in the size of the ice cubes along with learning rhyming words like ice, rice, mice and so on.
Some frozen sidewalk paint is all you need to prepare for this activity. Freeze the chalk paint and make it into ice chalk. You could refer to the basic chalk paint recipe here. Step outside and have some fun drawing, stamping ,printing, colour mixing and colour melting races.
Sensory tubs make good learning tools and setting up an ice sensory tub ensures your toddler has some cool fun on a hot summer afternoon. Fill up a tub with water and  freeze it overnight. Next day set up the activity for your child with some Arctic animals inside. Talk about the animals and observe the changes will working on the language development and imaginative play.
