For all mom to be and actually papas to be, pregnancy is not a disease that the mom-to- be is unfit to travel. Its just a phase and the woman is free to live a normal life. It’s not a sickness that should ever tie you down or deter you from your normal routine.
Pregnant women need not be restricted from flying. Most airlines permit pregnant women to fly until the end of the 35th week of pregnancy, whereupon expectant mothers are strictly advised not to fly. Exact stipulations from airline to airline vary, and it is well worth contacting airlines in advance of flying to confirm their regulations. Some airlines may request a medical certificate specifying the expectant date of delivery too. Below are travel guidelines by Popular airlines for your travel:
Here is our easy guide to flying while you are pregnant:
1. Check with your doctor and always carry your doctor’s certificate. Airlines & Airline staff can be unpredictable
2. Avoid travel to countries that would require immunization. Talk to your practitioner for more info on immunizations.
3. Stay hydrated through your journey. Drink lots of water, milk and juices
4. Request for a special meal and all that you may need incase of a long flight like milk, uncut fruits, etc…
5. Snack at frequent intervals but keep the salt low and don’t snack on junk
6. Don’t tie your seat belt too tight. Always wear your seat belt – but during pregnancy strap it low on your abdomen and pelvis.
7. Stretch at regular intervals. Take a walk
8. If you feel nauseas carry that little something that works wonders for you and helps you feel better
9. Keep your medicines handy
10. Travel light; your purse doesn’t need to be a dump yard like we always like it to be
11. Choose to wear slip-on shoes that are roomy and comfy with thin socks. Your feet tend to swell up in flight
12. During pregnancy travel, always carry a copy of your medical history containing your blood type, any chronic health problems, a listing all medications you are currently taking, any medical or food allergies, your doctor’s name and your due date
