Winter brings with it shorter days, multiple layers of clothing, a constant need to get into the warmth of your blanket and sip on some hot chocolate, surely decluttering and tidying up your home is the last thing one wants to do.

To ensure you breeze through this season and are spending the least amount of time managing your home and wardrobe, we have put a quick list of things you could do to get winter ready and ensure it is clutter free.

Wardrobe:

Depending on the place you live and how cold it gets, check your winter essentials. This would typically include sweaters, jackets, boots, inners, full sleeve tops, track pants, gloves, socks, etc. When you pull out your clothing from the storage check them for the condition they are in, ask yourself if you would you enjoy wearing them again this season and keep only those which fit you and make you feel great. Do throw out those itchy sweaters, mismatch socks, worn out gloves, slipper!! Winter staples for most are denims and jackets. Check each piece you own in this category and let go of the ones that are not your favourites.

Also, make a spot in your home to hang your jackets and a dry space for your boots.

Kitchen & Pantry:

It’s the best time to talk stock and add to your pantry some winter essentials. Soup catches, hot cocoa powder, plenty of dry fruits are a few musts. Also check your crockery for soup bowls, cookware to keep the food warm, pans and pots. Check the status of your thermos, hot plates and other kitchen products you tend to use more often. Declutter food items that you have not consumed the last few months, discard electrical products that are not getting used, chipped crockery and make space in your kitchen only for whats essential.

Skin-care Products & Toiletries:

This is one area where you would be switching products to during a season change. Discard the old unused products and stock up your winter favourites. Also, declutter your make up. Go over every thing you own and discard all the products you don’t see yourself using in the next few months.

Blankets & Quilts:

Depending on the usage in your home pick the quilts and blankets you would enjoy using. The rest evaluate if you want to even hold on to them. Winter linens or clothes do consume a lot more space, you don’t want your cupboards filled with things you don’t land up using. Pick and keep only those which are essential. Also check your stock of cushion covers, bath mats, towels and discard the ones you have not been using or have worn out.

Medicine Cabinet:

Check your stock, if there are some medicines that have expired discard them.

Space to dry your clothes:

Another key area to plan for in winters in a place for drying your clothes. Clothes take longer to dry and you always land up with a pile that you want to air out. Marking out space for this ensure you not dealing with over flowing clothes in the laundry!

Once you have minimalized the clutter in your home, you are all set to enjoy the season!
