Wear your mask! Sanitize your hands! Don’t touch anything!

These are the constant instructions we keep repeating to the kids. This pandemic has made us paranoid if nothing else!  Most of us haven’t left our homes for the past 8 months, and this is not helping our mental well being, the fear psychosis, or our mood! I hope to help you take off with the family!

There are many Covid safe options you can explore and if you take the basic precautions then in my opinion a lovely holiday awaits!

*Disclaimer- All the suggestions are based on my personal experience and sensibilities. Please practice enhanced measures during travel. I cannot guarantee not contracting the disease during travel.

1.The Road Trip

This tops the list surely. It is by far the safest option. Pick up your car and head to the countryside nearby. I have done many such trips with my family during the pandemic. Although, it is tough to carry so many rations and the need to find that interior house (with no good roads) to get the best locations but it’s worth it. These can be booked easily over various villa rental platforms that have become super active. I personally suggest SaffronStays and Little Passports can help you find the perfect villa with our exclusive discounts. Few tips to help you book. Make sure the staff says inside the villa to ensure their limited exposure. Carry some uncommon food items as due to remoteness you won’t get that Nutella jar or whole wheat pasta you want. Pick a fantastic location – don’t settle for just a house with a pool.

2.A Jungle Safari

What better time to visit the jungles than now! Fresh air, no humans, and fewer jeeps during spotting! All this adds up to making them a covid safe holiday. The fresh air will ensure low risk of the disease spread and low human contact means low risk to exposure. Some cities such as Nagpur, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi have jungles that are drive-able. However, from other cities, you might need to take a flight to reach the nearest airport.

My suggestions are the jungles of Madhya Pradesh like Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Satpura etc. Their forest departments are complying with strict adherence of safety protocols for the pandemic and I felt very safe in these jungles.

3.Hills & Valleys

I recommend heading to hills for similar reasons such as fresh air and low human contact. Due to the terrain, most of the hilly regions have a lesser density of population than cities and plains. I have loved heading to the hills during the pandemic, especially for the weather change. The chilly weather has ensured that we felt we are on holiday! From some cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore – the hills are just a few hours drive away and the families living there can take advantage of this. The hills are perfect for treks and trekking is the covid-safest attraction to do on holidays! The hills are hotspots for organic produce and you can enjoy fresh home-cooked meals. Most of the popular cafe’s in the hills have outdoor seating and these are perfect for covid safe dining.

4. Off The Grid

Remote places such as the northeast or small towns – fishing villages(with lovely beaches) or mountain hamlets (with unrestricted views) are perfect for an off the grid experience. The more remote the better! You will ensure a Covid safe area due to the lack of tourists and low population. These areas are steeped in nature due to low industrialization and the locals are very kind and friendly. A must-do experience with the kids!

5. Private Accommodation

If you aren’t the nature buff and do need an urbanscape, opt for Airbnb (s) or similar accomodation. This is a Covid safer option as you limit contact with other guests, the hotel staff, and public spaces. I recommend heading to the glitzy Dubai which has luxurious apartments that can rival any 5-star hotel. Dubai boasts of many beaches and gardens which are the safest ways to enjoy your holidays. There are numerous open-air shopping options and don’t miss out on the al-fresco dining facing the magical Dubai Fountains!

Equipped with these ideas and hygienic precautions, I am sure your next family awaits just around the corner! Head out today and make these winter holidays as memorable as the last one !!
