Starting your little one on solids is a big moment in every parent's life. We want to make sure we are giving them the right food, at the right time. What should we start with as the first food? How many times should I feed them solids? Should I use silverware or those pretty cartoon colourful bowls? There are just so many questions.
So one of the things we get asked a lot is what do I do with all the silverware my baby was given? Is it safe to use for their food? The answer is Yes! This is because of the age-old belief that silver actually has antibacterial properties.
Now the traditional way of weaning a baby and starting them onto solids after 6 months of breastmilk involves starting with dal ka pani and then graduating to a fruit puree. You can check out the Kidsstoppress website for purees recipes broken down by age and other recipes you can give your baby as they grow older.
Today we're going to talking about a topic that a lot of new moms have questions about – baby-led weaning or BLW.
Mansi Zaveri, Founder of Kidsstoppress chatted with Swati Jagdish of @Mayas_Amma. Swati is a Certified Behaviour Profile Analyst & Health Coach and Parenting expert as well.
We spoke to her about
- What is baby-led weaning?
- What is the right age to start it?
- What are the benefits of baby-led weaning compared to the traditional way of feeding
- Would you recommend a mixed approach – baby-led weaning + purees etc
