We need to stop fretting over small things. More than raising kids who are content, we need to be confident about our parenting style. Let’s give wings to our child’s dreams.

My daughter asked me to buy her a new guitar. In our fast-paced, finger click world – we went on Amazon, and she fell in love with this Frozen-themed guitar. When I looked at the price, I found it a little expensive. When she repeatedly asked me for the same guitar for two months, I felt guilty and bought it right away. But now, I am feeling guilty of caving in.

I am confused if I should feel bad when I am unable to get her all the toys and resources she wants? We live in a world of abundance – but when we can’t, does that mean they won’t be happy?

But when I came across success stories of sportsmen from the Olympics, the girls’ hockey team, and other many successful people – you know that being able to afford all resources and toys has nothing to do with success. It gave me a better perspective on parenting.

As a parent, it taught me:

  1. Don’t raise your children having a lot of guilt. Do what you are capable of.
  2. Have ground rules, and be dedicated. They learn when you are a role model.
  3. Celebrate the big wins, so they get motivated
  4. Look for alternatives, when all resources aren’t available to them.
  5. Make sure you are raising strong children, and don’t succumb to society.

Parents – this is a reality check! We need to stop fretting over small things. More than raising kids who are content, we need to be confident about our parenting style. We need to hear them out, push them when needed, and raise them to be the human beings they want to be! That is called success.

Here’s Neera Chopra’s story. We salute his parents that did everything for this one dream!
