I have always believed that telling my children the truth about the entire picture is essential to having a healthy relationship with not just them but their relationship with the world. This is why I don’t shy away from telling them about the effects of climate change. From Australian bushfires to predictions that small countries will be submerged within the decade, I want them to know it all.
I’ve always been told that change begins at home and I have implemented this in my life by reducing my carbon footprint. From phasing out plastic in the form of bags, boxes or bottles to ensuring that the lights and fans are switched off when they aren’t being used, I try to make small changes and over the years, I have seen my children observe and replicate my small efforts to save the planet.
This is why the 17-year-old Greta Thunberg is such an inspiration for me. I hope that sharing her story with my children will show them that even a young child has the power to make a big change.
Today, on KSP Radio, we share with you the story of this young girl who has stunned the world by the commitment she has to make the planet a better place.
