The festive season in India is here and amidst the joy, colours and the happiness that it spreads around, this is a great time for foodies. Delicacies of different shapes, tastes and colours are offered to the deities, that make the whole occasion drool-worthy. While we proudly parade the treats and share it with ournear and dear, have you ever given a thought about those who don’t get to enjoy or taste as many meals as we do? Ever taught your kids why sharing is caring and why you shouldn’t waste food?

As a part of movie night this week, I came across this one, that was widely received and turned out to be a favourite among children and parents. Stanley Ka Dabba is the movie in focus today. Do check out the other movies in the ‘must-watch list’ for children’s by this avid film buff.

Released in the summer of 2011, this movie is directed by the terrific Amole Gupte (the brain behind another popular movie for kids- Taare Zameen Par), who also breathes life into the character of ‘Khadoos’. His son, in real life, Partho Gupte is the hero of the movie and the little boy sure carries the entire movie on his small shoulders.

An endearing school boy, who is liked by all (well,  not all) and is the teachers’ favourite wins over everyone with his innocence, sense of humour, creativity and love for food. But wait- he doesn’t carry a ‘dabba’ like other kids and this irks his teacher, Verma, a glutton who tells him to get his own ‘dabba’ or not come to school. What happens next?

Why you will love this movie:

In what starts off on a bright note, the movie makes you fall in love with the innocence, that is children. From sharing their tiffin, to jokes to a bonding of a lifetime, our children end up teaching us life’s best lessons inadvertently. This movie drives home this point, pretty convincingly.

The suspense surrounding why the kid comes to school without a tiffin, will make you grab a tissue, no doubt. The smooth narration that leads up to the big reveal, in the end, is what defines classic storytelling.

I remember after the movie was released, every review and news channel screamed about the genius that is Partho Gupte. The little boy who won you over with his love for food, witty replies and an infectious enthusiasm is the reason this movie will join the list of your favourites. It did, in mine and my child’s case. Happy movie night!
