Here’s an extremely simple recipe which is one of my favourites, with some extremely simple ingredients that are most of the times available at home. So if you’re having some sugar cravings, and secretly want to indulge, try out the Apple Crumble Recipe and I’m sure the kids will love it too.
Ingredients
For the crumble
Plain flour, sieved pinch of salt- 300g
Unrefined brown sugar-175g
Unsalted butter, cubed at room temperature-200g
Butter for greasing- 1 tbsp
For the filling
apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1cm/½in pieces-450g
Unrefined brown sugar-50g
Plain flour-1 tbsp
1 pinch of ground cinnamon
Preparation method
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Place the flour and sugar in a large bowl and mix well. Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub into the flour mixture. Â Â Â Keep rubbing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Place the fruit in a large bowl and sprinkle over the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Stir well being careful not to break up the fruit.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Butter a 24cm/9in ovenproof dish. Spoon the fruit mixture into the bottom, then sprinkle the crumble mixture on top.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is browned and the fruit mixture bubbling.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Serve with thick cream or custard.
