5 topics every mom discusses in Mumbai

The school that your child currently goes to anyways decides his fate for senior school and is part of a matter of pride for a lot of moms. Some moms are quite secretive about which classes their kids are doing while some dont want to credit their childs success to any external help. How many moms are ok if the child’s peers know 2 things more than yours and you just laugh it off thinking its okay she will learn at her pace. I know moms who are proud that their kids know A Z or 1 30 at a really early age or can ride better or colour better. We modern day paranoid moms want our children to do everything before the prescribed age.

If you ever wanted to know what women chat especially moms and how they just hit it off immediately it’s no surprise. I skipped these conversations until my daughter was 2.5 years only because I was working or maybe I escaped the conversations that can be quite stressful. So really here are five things that moms love discussing:

1. Schools & Admissions. Here the stress levels depend on the age of the child. E.g. if its getting in a playschool relatively less stressful if the child is 3 and eligible for Junior Kg then its very stressful. This is a single most stressful topic that hasn’t even spared the fathers. The school that your child currently goes to anyways decides his fate for senior school and is part of a matter of pride for a lot of moms.

2. Classes: What classes is your child doing? This includes activity & training. Some moms are quite secretive about which classes their kids are doing while some don’t want to credit their childs success to any external help. Some just love collecting info and being like a Just Dial and seem so in tune to whats happening when they are actually not keen on trying any of them. The latest to the bandwagon are summer camps. All moms are on the lookout so if you are hosting one please send us your details.

3. How much does your child know? We instill so much competition as moms in our children that its hard to believe that they wont be competitive. How many moms are ok if the child’s peers know 2 things more than yours and you just laugh it off thinking its okay she will learn at her pace. Very few! I know moms who are proud that their kids know A – Z or 1 – 30 at a really early age or can ride better or colour better. How early was he potty trained? How well he eats or sleeps separately? It takes a lot not to be unnerved easily and be very confident about your child. Milestones are good but they cannot be the single driving factor for moms.

4. Maids & drivers: Moms in Mumbai are handicapped without help. The world can turn around but if they don’t have help then it can really rock their boat. Most moms I know are so dependent that they actually broadcast these messages on the social profiles.

5. Books/Toys/Libraries: Anything in this city which has a long waiting queue is good. Moms work on recommendations. Even I do!!! So which are the best books to buy? Which toys will make my child sharper and help him in getting into a school. So where do you get these? Where did you buy these worksheets? Is this what was asked in some XYZ school interview? Our view is so myopic that I am worried what kind of children are we raising? India must be the only country where the age mentioned on a toy/puzzle/book/worksheets are not applicable. We modern day paranoid moms want our children to do everything before the prescribed age. So true, can so so agree with this. We push our children to deliver way more than they can. Tiger moms aren’t we?
