90 Acres Of Green & Fresh Air, In The Heart Of Delhi

Do you want to get away from the noise and hustle-bustle of your daily routine? Driving a few hours out of town is not always an option. Well! Now you don’t need to.  You can visit the city’s first arboretum. What is an arboretum? I just found out also – It refers to a botanical garden containing living collections of woody plants and is intended at least in part for scientific study.

 The recently renovated Sundar Nursery is definitely your go-to for your breathe of fresh air and some tranquillity (or not if you’re taking your kids along). It’s been compared to New York’s Central Park. The Time magazine has named it one of the world’s greatest places to visit in 2018. Now doesn’t that sound interesting? 

What’s The Sundar Nursery?

Sunder Nursery located near the Humayun’s Tomb entrance in Nizamuddin has been opened to the public after years of being under renovation. This ‘wasteland’ originally known as Azim Bagh has been transformed into a haven complete with a green cover and restored heritage monuments.

• It’s the ideal picnic spot for everyone. The lawn, lake and monuments are clean and well maintained.
• You can walk around a water canal with 10 lotus-shaped marble fountains, resembling those of the Taj Mahal

• The 12 monuments inside the park have been designated as World Heritage Sites by Unesco & have been restored using traditional methods as used in the Mughal era. The stonework is beautiful.
• The park has over 300 species of trees & 80 bird species which gives it the tag of the city’s first arboretum.
• If you visit the nursery on Sunday mornings, you will get a chance to walk around and sample the organic market that is set up. You can get everything from fresh-farm produce, artisan products to terracotta cookware and natural fertilisers. The market is open from 9 AM – 1 PM on Sundays only.
