Dreamland Publications have this wonderful series on basic toddler books with vegetables, fruits, birds, insects, animals, ABC & 123. The books are great to start with your infant when is about 6- 9 mths old and starts focusing on images.

The images are fairly large to attract the kids eye and hold his attention for long. The pictures are real and therefore never causes any confusion in the child’s mind as to what it really is.  This is something I had read a long time ago that one must always show real pictures to the child when he is in an identification stage so that it never causes any confusion in his mind. Animated pictures may change from book to book and will therefore always appear different to the child as a hazy image.

With a brief write up the book seems perfect as a starter for your infants and can be used all through the preschool years. At first it can be used for identification and later to question them on which veggies grow under the ground and which grow over the ground, how many seeds do fruits have and you can name the fruits for him to say few, many, none, etc.
