The Mylapore Festival is one event Chennaiites always look forward to every year. The timing of the event couldn’t be more perfect- ringing at the end of the Margazhi season, the event looks to celebrate the spirit of the oldest and most popular localities of the city. 

About the Mylapore Festival:

This fest that is more than a decade old, celebrates the food, dance, folk arts, kolam, crafts and other wonderful things happening in and around the Sri Kapali temple.

What’s in store this year:

Spanning over four days, in over 12 venues, with 30 plus events and 300 artists, the schedule looks packed with fun things to do for everyone in the family.

Arts & Crafts workshop:

January 12 – Workshop I: “Lipan Art of Gujarat“

Age group: 8-12 years Time: 8 am Venue: Nageshwara Rao

January 13 – Workshop II : “Clay Sculpting”

Age group: 8-12 years Time: 8 am Venue: Nageshwara Rao 

Chess Tourney:

January 12th & 13th

Age group: under 8-under 12 years Time: 8.15 am Venue: The Mylapore Club, 39, Luz Church Road, Mylapore

Walk Theme: Traditional Games In Temples

January 13th

Time: 4.30 pm Venue: Inside Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Mylapore

Contests: Traditional Games 

January 12th Dayakattam 

Time: 5.30  pm Venue: Lady Sivaswamy Ayyar Girls School, Mylapore 

January 13th Pallankuzhi 

Time: 5.30  pm Venue: Lady Sivaswamy Ayyar Girls School, Mylapore 

Kolam Contest

January 12th 

Time: 3.30  pm Venue: North Mada Street, Mylapore 

That’s not all! The event promises a range of exhibitions and walks for families and concerts that you can listen together with your kids to encourage budding talents in the city. And the highlight of the Mylapore Festival, year after year, is the delightful range of street food and traditional Mylapore food you get at the road stalls that are absolutely to die for! Don’t miss those kozhukatais or appalams that your kids will simply love!
