Breathe in, breathe out.

That's what we are telling ourselves ahead of the disturbing statistics and news reports regarding the COVID-19 second wave. The last year has been unprecedented and everyone has been affected in different ways. Till now our kids were mostly uninfected and considered at the most to be carriers.

The second Covid-19 surge with its mutations has turned everything upside down. The number of children being affected by the Coronavirus is staggering. The newer variants of the virus, known to be stronger and deadlier can easily surpass immune defences and antibodies.

Mansi Zaveri, Founder of Kidsstoppress spoke to Dr Nihar Parekh, a leading paediatrician in Mumbai about the growing concern amongst parents. We got him to answer questions that we have all been asking ourselves

  • What are the symptoms to look for in children?
  • Can new moms continue to breastfeed after being vaccinated?
  • Can a COVID positive mom breastfeed her baby?
  • How to deal with the anxiety kids are developing in the current situation?

And lots more

Dr Parekh talks to us about 'breaking the chain in kids'. A concept that has applied to adults from the beginning of last year but the kids were overlooked because they were not being affected. However, there has been a huge change in the situation and the crisis needs to be arrested before it gets worse. The new strain of COVID does not see a difference in age. Kids as young as 1 or 16 years are being infected by the virus.

Mansi Zaveri, rightly says, till we (adults) were at risk we were doing what we can to protect ourselves. But when that risk is now on our kids, it scares us more than ever. Don't you agree?

We are so glad that there is some clarity on how to deal with kids if they are infected by COVID-19. We need to come together and fight this disease by staying safe and masking up, even our kids.
