Make daddy dear feel special this Father’s Day with these handcrafted DIY gifts. I have compiled some unique and fun crafts that can be cherished as keepsakes of memories for years to come.

This Lockdown might have crashed our outdoor plans but it cannot stop us from celebrating Father’s Day indoors with a bit of creativity. Let’s get the adventure of venturing out in open wood, camping under the open sky, watching stars and discussing silly things with your dad through crafts.

Pebble Rock Adventure in Woods Keepsake

This fun & easy craft can easily be combined with a small nature hunt in your garden / safe surroundings. Lookout and forage some dry leaves, pebbles, pieces of dry wood/bark or anything that you can find.

Things You Need

  • Pebbles & all the natural material collected during a nature walk
  • Paper Plate
  • Fevicol
  • Glue Gun
  • Watercolours & brushes
  • Toothbrush for splattering colours

Instructions

  • Colour the plate as per your choice of scenery that you want to create using watercolours.
  • Splatter some paints using a toothbrush for creating a starry night scene.
  • Once it is dried gather your natural finds and arrange them on the plate to create a nature adventure that your kid wants to experience with dad.
  • Dried leaves make the perfect backdrop for woods. Crush them and stick them using Fevicol. Use bigger leaves/branches to make trees.
  • Arrange pebbles in form of dad & kid. Once you have finalized the scene, stick everything using a glue gun. Finish it with your personalized message.

Salt Dough Handprint Picture Hanger

Salt dough makes one of the easiest and cheapest materials to make keepsake gifts for daddy this Father’s day! This is a perfect handmade gift to cherish memories of those tiny hands / feet for years to come.

Things You Need Will Need:

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 Cup Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Warm Water

Instructions

  • Mix together into a large bowl and knead it until smooth and stretchy. It is a fabulous messy, sensory play experience for little ones which will help in strengthening their important hand muscles too!
  • Lay it on a flat surface and using a rolling pin shape it as per your wish. Make sure the thickness is not too thin or too thick. We have cut it in form of a heart using a paper cutting knife.
  • Ask your kid to squish it firmly using her/his hand to create the impression. You can do it with feet too. A firm straight down impression and then lift straight off again works really well. If it gets messed up, the great thing is that you can reform it and try again!
  • We have decorated it using some shells and beads.
  • Add holes on top using a straw to hang with strings once it dries.
  • You can either sun-dry it (long process) or bake it in the oven (short process). Ours took 2 days to dry completely in sun. But it won’t work in the humid climate.
  • For baking it in the oven preheat the oven to 120° C. Arrange your dough art on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven until dry and hard, about 2 hours. Allow it to cool completely.
  • Once it is dried paint it as per your like. We have painted ours using blue watercolour and golden acrylic paint.  Later on, I have attached a picture of father son duo by sticking it on a cardboard base. I have added drawstrings to hang in our living room.

Handmade Souvenir Of Lockdown Days Using Popsicle Sticks

Fathers are surely every kid’s favourite buddy this lockdown. Little ones got the perfect opportunity & time to learn all the techniques and tricks of daddy’s favourite sport. Our son got an introduction to cricket during this lockdown from my cricket crazy husband. I thought it will be a good idea to cherish this memory in form of a handmade souvenir which we can look back and remember our family time in future.

Things You Need

  • A piece of cardboard
  • Popsicle Sticks & Wooden Spoons
  • Papercutting Knife
  • Fevicol
  • Glue Gun
  • Oil Pastels
  • Eva foam sheets in different colours
  • Googly eyes

Instructions

  • (If you're doing this with the kids, they might need some assistance on cutting the Popsicle sticks and using a glue gun).
  • Place the popsicle sticks in form of a house and stick them together using a glue gun.
  • Put the Popsicle stick house structure on cardboard and trace it. Cut it using a paper cutting knife.
  • Stick the Popsicle stick house on the cardboard using a glue gun again.
  • Let the little ones colour the house using oil pastels as per their wish.
  • Help kids to cut popsicle sticks in form of wickets & bat. Ask them to colour if they want.
  • Cut out a small circular cut out to use as a ball.
  • For making father & son figures first cut the wooden spoon to be able to fit them into the house frame.
  • Make and cute clothes out of Eva foam sheet. Add details on clothes & face using a black marker.
  • Stick everything using Fevicol / glue gun on the wooden spoons.
  • Place everything on the cardboard house frame and stick it all using a glue gun after finalizing the placement. Add your personalized message.

Make Best out of Waste – Mango Seed Superhero Dad Craft

Every dad is a superhero who does his duty with complete dedication and without expecting anything back. So, why not gift him a superhero miniature this father’s day. A personalized model will make him smile even in the time of lockdown. Also, it’s the season of mangos. So why don’t make a craft out of mango seeds too. It will be perfect to teach kids about reducing waste too. Dry mango seeds thoroughly. Ours took two days to dry in sun.

Things You Need:

  • Dried Mango Seeds
  • Acrylic / Poster Colors
  • Paint Brushes
  • Black Marker
  • Felt fabric in bright colours
  • Scissors to cut
  • Fevicol

Instructions

  • Ask kids to colour them in their favourite colours.
  • Make face by drawing a circle and colour it in a peach shade.
  • Add details on face and superhero costume using a black marker.
  • Cut felt fabric in a rectangular shape little longer than seed. Stick its corner as shown in the picture using Fevicol.

Remember, your superhero loves the efforts you put while giving any gift. With a personal touch, some heartwarming words will make your father’s day worth remembering. Even your father deserves the words of affirmation, so make him realize how much he matters to you.

They'll love the thought and effort that went into creating something special for them and your handmade father's day crafts will be around to enjoy for years to come. Pour all your love and efforts into making a beautiful and memorable day for your father. He’ll surely cherish it forevermore than anything else!
