No child loves to brush, but it is important to teach them the importance of good dental hygiene from a very young age. To do just that parents need to get creative and make everything associated with dental care fun!
Here are a few super fun and interesting craft activities that will help you to make this daily routine fun and enjoyable. Children will be able to understand the basic care routine and also get them interested in taking care of their teeth.
- Happy and Sad Tooth Activity:
Things You Need:
- Yellow and white construction paper
- Picture cut-outs of healthy and junk food from magazines and newspapers
- Adhesive glue
STEP 1:
Cut out two large teeth out of the construction paper and place the pictures of healthy foods on the white tooth and the junk food pictures on the yellow tooth.
STEP 2:
Make your child paste the pictures on the respective tooth. Finally make them draw a smiley face on the white tooth and a sad face on the yellow tooth.
Explain to your child the importance of eating healthy food to prevent cavities and bad breath.
2. Steps to Brush: Sequencing Activity
Draw or print out the steps to brush. Have your child paste them on a paper in the correct order.
3. Reward Chart
Make your own reward chart on a construction paper. Reward them with smileys and stars every time your child follows the routine of brushing .
4. Painting with Toothbrush
Cut out a large tooth out of yellow construction paper. With the help of a toothbrush and white paint have your child paint the yellow tooth white. Ask your child to sing along ‘Up and down round n round’ following the motion.
You will need:
- Hard boiled egg
- A bowl
- Pepsi or Coca Cola
Method:
Have your child soak the hard boiled egg in a bowl filled with soda. Let it soak overnight. Next day ask your child to observe the colour of the egg which has changed now. Explain to the child that the enamel of our teeth is similar to the shell of an egg. Not brushing our teeth regularly will result in yellowing of our teeth as well. Make your child hold the egg and brush it with the help of toothpaste and observe the outcome.
6. Toothfairy Certificate
Print out a tooth fairy certificate and present it to your children every time they lose a tooth. It will be really exciting for them to collect certificates each time one of their teeth falls.
7. Toothfairy Craft
Cut out a tooth out of white construction paper. Next cut a frilly skirt out of pink construction paper. Also cut wings and crown out of blue and golden glitter craft foam. Assemble all the parts and finish the tooth fairy craft by pasting googly eyes.
A regular visit to the dentist along with these fun activities will help keep oral hygiene under check at all times.
