Do you complain that you nag your child to do their homework, or when you are teaching them? Sometimes, we need to change our approach. While all of us are juggling through a million to-do lists, I avoid being distracted when I am teaching my kids.
Being reactive is way easier than being patient- and that’s why you must be careful. Sometimes you must be getting frustrated as you may find it easy, but remember for them, it must be a tough problem or activity. So teach them kindly and not in a rush.
Here Are 5 Things To Avoid While Homework Time:
Don’t Answer Calls Or Reply To Emails:
When you do these, you are not only getting distracted but being a distraction too. You showing poor interest makes them lose interest too.
Don’t Multi-task With Cleaning Or Chores In The House:
Again it’s distracting. Also if you’re helping them out with solving certain problems, your constant movement will prove to be very disturbing and might lead them to lose focus.
Don’t Check Social Media:
You will tempt them too. On the contrary it will make you anxious. So it is best to avoid.
Don’t Correct While They Is Working:
Let them finish the entire problem or whatever they are working on and then correct them. If you keep poking them in middle they’ll feel anxious. After they finish, you could correct them and show the right way, doing this, it will sink in their minds and they’ll remember.
Don’t Use Discouraging Words:
This is the main and most important point to keep in mind. You are your child’s biggest cheerleader, if you say things that will bring them down, then where will they go? So, be very mindful. If they aren’t getting a problem right over and over again- be patient. They must be more frustrated than you, so keep encouraging them instead.
