In a world full of pressures both offline and online there is so much anxiety that it’s sometimes hard for the best of us to be content and do things that only lead to happiness.

Different people define happiness differently and I believe always that happy women make happy moms and that’s why I often say, it is very important to be selfish. In many ways it’s taught to us to that selfish is a bad word but it’s really not. With the many roles we juggle, it’s very important.

With so much competition around and comparisons drawn all the time how do I still manage to remain content, be happy and get a good night’s sleep every single day?

Here are 5 small things I do that make me a much happier woman and a mom.

1. Say No:

I've learnt the hard way to say NO to things. As Indians, and as women, we just can't say no. Even to things that make us unhappy. Why? I'm not asking you to say no to everything but definitely say no to things that you need to prioritise. Spending time with my parents is the most important thing in my life and if I have to let go or say no to a few social obligations, then I need to learn to say it. The end result of feeling fuelled by what you set out as your agenda that day is all that matters and will make you happy.

It is the biggest killjoy. Don't compare the likes, the compliments, comments and materialistic things or let others give you holiday goals — all on a social platform. Their Saturday night pictures should hardly make you feel sad for not having a great social life vs. your lazy day with a book in bed or Saturday morning fitness pictures. Sometimes the same efforts result into different returns and you will need to learn to be okay with that. Everybody's growth is a different pace and comparison will kill that joy.

3. Set your goals:

If you have your own goals then your journey is different. This will help you see and track your progress on your journey vs a meaningless comparison with others.

4. Celebrate the small wins:

As women, we are too harsh on ourselves. Whether it's a perfect recipe that you cracked, a big contract, a perfect picture or the sign of the first muscle you have been painstakingly working out to build — Celebrate it. Share it. It will fuel you to work harder.

5. Sleep:

We always undermine how much sleep we need. If you sleep well and enough you will be a happier person. Sleep for at least 7 hours a day and see the change. A well-rested person is always more efficient. Here are some easy ways to ensure you get more and better sleep in every night.
