All Those “How Does It Work?” Questions Will Now Be Solved By Engineer This!

A few months back I came across an amazing way for children to explore complex engineering and mechanical concepts all while sitting in the comfort of their home. a show on Zee Q was breaking down scientific concepts into understandable modules using simple household items so children, curious about the workings of things, can immediately grasp it. The host breaks down each part while highlighting the use, need, concept, and function thus illustrating the role it plays in engineering.

Young children see something new everyday and they break it down to understand it better. Ask any parent and they will tell you they are fast running out of answers to all the questions! Kids of today are more inquisitive and let me know if saying you don’t know, or feigning ignorance helps ever, because it sure doesn’t for me! So if your child is looking around and breaking the world down one question at a time, then you know what you need to do. Feed that thirst for knowledge!

There is an old cliche about Indian parents wanting their children to all be engineers or doctors. Any Hindi movie will vouch for that! If your child genuinely interested in engineering and mechanics and you are tired of hunting around for classes that will further that fire, look no further. These days if children are interested in science, math, or any other subject there are a number of ways they can explore their interests.

Engineer This

A few months back I came across an amazing way for children to explore complex engineering and mechanical concepts all while sitting in the comfort of their home. Engineer This! a show on Zee Q was breaking down scientific concepts into understandable modules using simple household items so children, curious about the workings of things, can immediately grasp it. Episode and episode they enthralled kids and now the good news is they are back with a brand new season, on air from this November 2nd!

If you have not seen the show I strongly suggest you do! You might even pick up a things or two. The concept of the show is simple. Each episode will take a big idea or engineering concept and break it down into a 30 minute project. The host/hosts show how to recreate the idea with items found commonly at home. You can follow along with your kids if you wish. The host breaks down each part while highlighting the use, need, concept, and function thus illustrating the role it plays in engineering. And once the product is built, there is time left for a surprise! With the bits and pieces lying around, the host will make a fun, adorable recycling project to that is worthy of showing off to friends!

What I Loved About The Show

In an era where children are immersed in shows that glorify violence, here was a show that aimed to tap into their natural curiosity. Children will have questions regardless of what they watch on television. Questions about the daily working of things plagues their mind and they want answers quick! These concepts are tackled on Engineer This! and answered! This is a simple way of getting children interested in the way the world functions and curious about the mechanics of the world long before their school does.

So make a space for your child on the couch as the new season starts soon. I for one can’t wait to see what questions will be answered this season.
