All play and no work will make every child dull. As much as we weigh importance to the marks and cut-offs, it is essential for parents to understand that kids need play time. They need to step out, sweat it out and come back home feeling successful and happy.
In today’s urban jungle, where the number of parks and gardens are few and far-fetched, we have to rely on the schools to provide our kids the much-needed play time. Sadly, many schools compromise on this essential point and PT periods turn into an  extra hour for math or science.

A recent news report on DNA, revealed that Sports Minister, Vijay Goel, announced to the Lok Sabha on Dec 1, that under the Right To Education Act, the Central Government has made it mandatory for all schools to have access to playgrounds and to engage a physical education instructor. He also said a new scheme called, “Khelo India- National Programme for Development of Sports” would be launched would be launched soon which would provide schools with an opportunity to organise competitions for all boys and girls under different age categories such as under 14 and under 17 all over the country.
The idea is novel and a welcome move in a country that is starved on decent sports facilities for aspiring athletes.
