In a KSP Exclusive, we got Paedriatic Dentist Dr. Reshma Shah to talk to us about braces and the importance of wearing them. She mentions that kids’ as young as 5 years can wear braces as long as their big teeth have fallen. She urges mothers to look out for cosmetic signs like teeth jutting out, teeth not aligned properly and when jaws are not uniform. She also talks about looking out for signs like thumbsucking and lip biting habits that shift the alignment of the teeth. 

Dr. Reshma mentions, that as a dentist, they don’t only look at the aesthetics but also examine the functionality of the teeth. She talks about how braces are used to realign teeth into a more desirable position for cosmetic and functional purposes. She moves on to talk about how there are different kinds of braces available like ceramic braces, traditional metal braces, invisible braces and plates that you can wear for a little while.
