So when I first saw the Muffin top video I laughed and I laughed some more. Not only because its funny but because I suddenly felt I had company and I wasn’t the only one.
Enough is said on the current fascination about emphasis on body image, vanity and pictures for social validation. I am sure you will not be surprised to know that 60% of women have negative thoughts about their bodies. I think as moms we just want to achieve so much that there is this sense of not feeling accomplished on a lot of fronts. We want to be great moms, extremely fit, well dressed, have a social life, work, read, stay abreast with technology that its hard to do justice to everything. All of this adds to the negative imagery.
This song reminds me of all the times we women readjust our tops especially when we are sitting down and take notice of the tummy suddenly garnering more attention than the conversation. For all the times that we look at the mirror and look back at it to see if the top is not too tight. For all the times we ask our husbands repeatedly until he says “no baby its not looking tight”. I am not sure what I want to hear at this point but I think if I am in doubt I probably will make the tenth change than go with his not so convincing opinion.
It reminds me of all those glares I give to skinny moms thinking ” really woman, are you blessed with great metabolism, you stay at the gym or you don’t eat pizza?” It reminds me of all the various diets that just didn’t seem to work, especially the no carb ones!
So while I will ofcourse work towards a fitter me let me just enjoy the Muffin Top until then! Share your little secrets about your #muffinmoment with us in the comments below or on our Facebook & Twitter page.
