So much to do with kids

I dont know if I am the only mom who feels this or there are many of you there who believe that there is so much to do with a preschooler and there is just no time. It gives me great pleasure when she runs and believes that she can defeat me in a race, when she climbs up on things fearlessly with the trust that I am always there standing by to save her.

I don’t know if I am the only mom who feels this or there are many of you there who believe that there is so much to do with a preschooler and there is just no time.

Once the daughter is back from school I like to let her have some unstructured time to herself so she gets to be all by herself and explore her creativity with just about everything or nothing. Once the nap and lunch is done, there is only the evening which is spent in playdates, gardens, parks, travel or if its a bad day then probably with lots of books. As a mom sometimes I find it hard to prioritize what I should do with her and how much is enough. She is expected to know so much and do so much that I am like what the hell! She is all of 3 years old! Do we do alphabets today or picture talk or rhymes, or books, numbers or sequencing, colouring or patterning, worksheets or 15 piece puzzles. There are times when I don’t want to do any of these and trust me we don’t. Sometimes we are just doing nothing or building our tents and homes with bedsheets and creating mock homes.

When other moms tell me, ‘oh you are not doing this’, it doesn’t shake my thunder at all. Because I know what it feels like to break routines. I know how much I love going out and being on my own. I know how much I love to see her fall and rise all by herself.

It gives me great pleasure when she runs and believes that she can defeat me in a race, when she climbs up on things fearlessly with the trust that I am always there standing by to save her. I know in my struggle to manage to do so many things with her I didn’t compromise on the value systems that lay the foundation of an individual.

I am glad that she is exposed to all mediums of modern day communication and she makes her choices of what she wishes to do. I am glad she makes her decisions even if she is all of 3 in a world where there is so much to do.
