Have you heard this before while making a reservation at your favourite restaurant. Increasingly this is what most restaurants are doing and I find it so surprising. Children can get cranky and spoil the ambience of the place sometimes but understandable and its only a matter till you get yours. I do understand that children can cause a fuss sometimes, given their unpredictable nature however with more and more nuclear families and a lot of people moving to different cities, you will not have family accessible to babysit all the time. I mean just for a dinner I don't think I will possibly take the effort to find a babysitter and go to drop off my child in one direction and go to the restaurant in another direction. Guys its Bombay. I also feel that as a parent its very important to expose your child to different cuisines and tingle his/her taste buds once in a while. They need to understand how to behave at the table when outside the house, try different cuisines(extremely importantwhen you are traveling out of the country) and get a break from maa ka khana. As Indians our kids are very comfortable in the food that they eat which is very tangy, tasty, full of spices. Please don't get me wrong when I say they should be exposed to a lot more cuisines, infact our kids get exposed to a lot more variety from different parts of the country and to food that is healthy and wholesome. However when they taste food that is bland or has richer flavours besides the ones they are exposed to they tend to withdraw. For meat eaters it must be a les sof a hassle but for us vegetarians it a toughie…. I also find very few restaurants being child friendly and doing enough to keep the kids entertained. I remember the good old days at new Yorkers when they gave us that table mat with activities to do, it did keep us occupied right. If its a bar with loud music and not a very conducive place for children to be around I do understand but if its just a sit down dinner place, I am offended. So lets as moms put together a list of restaurants that don't allow babies and restaurants that are child friendly. No kids please

  • China Garden
  • Busaba
  • Bungalow 9
  • Olive Bandra & Mahalaxmi
  • Hakassan Bandra
  • Stella at the Leela

We love kids:

  • Mainland China
  • California Pizza Kitchen(they give crayons and activity mat for kids)
  • Spaghetti Kitchen
