So true! This new Google Ad evokes a lovely memory of your first day at school, how your mom stood at the gate watching you with a smile, encouraging you all along, while you took your first step towards independence, to discover a whole new world all by yourself. Just having her stand there gave you so much comfort and made this new beginning so much easier for you. Each time I am glued on to my phone my mom wonders what’s in that damn thing that gets us so hooked on. My parents are fast adopters for technology and their world is also pretty much in their phones now with all the apps that they need.
But even with a slight deviation in the normal she gets flustered and will call me at the drop of a hat to figure out why is her whatsapp not working or upgrading the apps so she can use the new whatsapp caller. She is also a big fan of Google hangouts given that my sister is in Australia and she can never get enough of watching her grandchildren and what my sis is cooking. There are times that they are taken aback when my daughter tries to fix something for her and will teach her ‘nani not like this do it like this’.
When I saw this brilliant ad I could totally resonate with it because I know that feeling of the first after being a mom and seeing my parents growing old.

1. Google Hangouts: Best way for them to connect with their distant relatives or children in another country/city. It’s also a great way to get to see your parents and when she wants to take an approval from you on what she’s wearing
2. Read news Online: There are multiple language options available on Google. This will help her get used to browsing , moving from one story to another.
3. YouTube: Watch old favourite songs or movies online, they don’t show them on TV any more!
4. Chat on Google messenger : Sign her up on Gmail , add rest of the family members and take turns to chat with her in her free time.
5. Recipe Portals : Register her on online recipe portals, as she discovers various international cuisines online.
