I have been meaning to do this over the weekend but have finally narrowed a few different ideas of doing it. My daughter is learning about sea creatures in school so we decided to do some craft related to that.

We did some sand art over the weekend and now are keen on trying out some craft that could make way to our craft corner soon.

Our sand art jelly fish. We made this with a blank paper, fevi stick, and some fine sand that came to us as an invite for a birthday party.

We are on a mission to make a jelly fish and we found some interesting ways we could do this.

Paper Bowl Jellyfish:

Materials needed

  • Paper bowl/plate
  • Tissue paper or crepe paper
  • Poster paint or watercolor
  • Paint brush
  • Scissors
  • White glue
  • Thin string
  • Paper clip or button
  • Wiggle eyes (optional)
  • Glitter fevicryl tubes to make the mouth
Method:
1. Punch a small hole at the center of a paper bowl using a pencil. Incase you do not have a paper plate or a bowl just use normal art paper and cute it into a semi circle.
2. Paint the outside of the paper bowl with poster paint or watercolor. Jellyfishes come in various colors. The most popular ones are pink, blue and purple but you can always paint your jellyfish the way you like. Let your child paint it with whatever designs he wishes to. be it dots, stripes, finger prints, whatever he feels like. Allow your painted bowl to dry completely.
4. Cut string to a length of about 6 inches or more and insert the string through the hole on your paper bowl.
5. Tape the lower end of the string from inside your paper bowl. It would be even better if you can tie the end of the string onto a small object such as a paper clip or button. Glue the paper clip or button onto the bowl.
6. Cut at least 8 tissue paper or crepe paper strips to make the jellyfish tentacles. If you do not have crepe paper use normal A4 size sheets or newspapers and paint it bright on both sides.
7. Glue the end of a tissue paper strip onto the center of your paper bowl.
8. Continue gluing the tissue paper strips from the center of your bowl to form a radial pattern.
9. Once the glue has dried, unveil your jellyfish by gently turning your paper bowl upside down and holding your jellyfish by the string.
You can make your jellyfish swim in the air by moving your arms from side-to-side.
10. Now stick on the eyes and make the mouth with the glitter glues for an embossed effect.  You may also glue on a pair of wiggle eyes if you like.
11. Go jellyfishing by tying the string from the tip of a dowel. Instead of a dowel or stick, you can make a safer fishing pole from 2 drinking straws connected end-to-end
I am really excited to try this art today and promise to post our pictures soon. Do share your experience in doing this craft activity with us.
