Last night’s  dinner table in my house turned extremely exciting as our Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his revolutionary step to ban black money in our country! In his speech, he said notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 “will not be legal tender from midnight tonight” and these will be “just worthless piece of paper.” A gamut of emotions ran across my mind from confusion and disbelief followed by a knee-jerk reaction to run to the ATM nearby to grab some Rs 100 notes. We talked and whatsapped and discussed with all friends and family to understand this new decision of the government.
Being a mom, here are some top of mind thoughts that crossed my mind when I heard this news!
1) Before I could react to Modi’s announcement – I found myself running faster than PT Usha to the ATM, as I discovered only 1000 rupee notes in my wallet!

2) While standing in the long queue outside the ATM,  the gravity of the situation struck me loud and clear- How will I shop at the ladies exhibition this weekend?

3) And then I realized I had invited bigger troubles : I had chosen  ‘Cash on Delivery’ for my online purchases that were arriving today!

4)Â But the biggest worry of all- “Sabji wale ka kya karoon?”

5) Why, oh why, did I offload all those 20 rupee notes to the auto wala today morning?

6) I went to my native place for Diwali vacation, and came back with a bunch of  envelopes (with 500 or 1000 rupee notes inside) that my kids received as gifts. All the joy of  cash inflow soon turned into a distant dream now!

7) For the fist time, I was happy that I had paid the newspaper bill and my help’s salary much earlier this month 😉

8) I went to bed after adding this to my to-do-list for tomorrow : Shop for a bigger wallet that can accommodate more currency notes!
