I don’t get to spend a lot of time with Kian during a normal weekday. There are many-a-days where I leave early in the morning before he has woken up and am back late in the evening after he has already fallen asleep. 24 hours and no sight of or interaction with my one-year old; it can be tough sometimes, but something we just have to accept as part of our lives. Therefore, when I can, I try to maximize not only my time but also my interactions with Kian. This would include playing with him, feeding him during meal times and probably most important of all, reading to him.

For me, our nightly reading schedule is precious; it is the few moments in the day when he sits on my lap, flips through the pages and listens intently to the words coming out of my mouth. I doubt there is another similar time in the day when he is calm, not restless and doesn’t want to run around exploring something or the other. His undivided attention, even for those few minutes and our connection in those few minutes is extremely special to me (and I hope to him).
