Worli Fest 2013

If having area fests is a fad then well this one is the latest to join the gang, uniting 3 large and remarkable venues of Worli, Seaface, Turf Club and Jamuli Maidan. Turf Club is also the venue for an eclectic food festival that will include a host of activities like cocktail mixing, wine and cheese tasting, indeed grape-stomping as well.

This time I feel a great sense of calm in sharing the news about a city fest as its across the road for me unlike the one at Horniman Circle, Kala Ghoda or Bandra fair where I need to single handedly tug along the bacchas.

If having area fests is a fad then well this one is the latest to join the gang, uniting 3 large and remarkable venues of Worli, Seaface, Turf Club and Jamuli Maidan. Actually 4 the fourth one being Worli Dairy which is being used as a parking space for the fest.

The Shree Sankalp Pratishthan will host the ‘Worli Festival’ in association with ‘The Times of India’ from January 25-27. A cultural concoction of food, live music, culture, entertainment and sports. Scores of programmes are scheduled over the three days. The festival will have all the elements of a fun fair from stilt-walkers to jugglers and stand-up comedians as well.

For the first time ever, the beautiful shoreline of Worli Seaface will open up to live performances by some of the best known artistes of the entertainment industry. The inaugural night itself has live acts by actorÂ Urmila Matondkar, singer Shalmali Kholgade, whose song Pareshaan is already winning awards, not to forget singer Shibani Kashyap of Sajnaa fame. Suzanne D’Mello whose hit number fromÂ Slumdog MillionaireÂ led her to the international stage and santoor playerÂ Rahul SharmaÂ will also perform at the event.

The finale will be a performance by singer Sukhwinder Singh as well as popular Marathi artiste Vaishali Samant. A grand laser show as well as fireworks display will bring the event to a draw.

The Turf Club event will be for members of all leading clubs Radio Club, Â Bombay Gymkhana, National Sports Club of India (NSCI), WIAA, Breach Candy Club, Radio Club or RWITC.

One particular event that is sure to draw eyeballs is the ‘Cook For Her’ contest where husbands are encouraged to prepare food for their wives. Â If early signals are anything to go by, a host of prominent men in public life are keen to unveil their hidden culinary skills upon this platform. Actor Suniel Shetty, cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar and writer Amish Tripathi will presumably set an example for all the husbands out there by cooking for their wives. Entry to all events is free.

Turf Club is also the venue for an eclectic food festival that will include a host of activities like cocktail mixing, wine and cheese tasting, indeed grape-stomping as well. A cluster of eminent singers is expected to perform alongside.
