Summer is almost here and Hollywood and Bollywood are already gearing up for their summer releases! Thinking of taking your child to the cinemas this week then definitely check out Zootopia!

Zootopia is the latest from the Walt Disney Animation Studios to hit theatres and they have definitely started this summer off with a bang! The endearing story is about a city full of animals that live together, yes we are talking no segregation. A city where predators and mammals, friends and enemies all live together in harmony! The heroine of Zootopia is a rabbit named Judy Hopps, (voiced by Gennifer Goodwin) who comes to Zootopia to realise her dream of being a police officer and doing good to help fellow animals. She makes the seemingly arduous journey from Bunny Burrows and, despite her size, dreams of being a tough cop in the Zootopia Police Department.

The rest of the movie is about how she goes about solving the mystery of 14 mammals that disappear over two days. She finds help and support from an unlikely ally – Nick Wilde, (voiced by Jason Bateman) a sly con artist fox who has something to prove himself. On the way Hopps encounters sloths (definitely worth a review of their own!), shrews, jaguars, elephants and everything in between!

Zootopia is one of those movies that was made for kids, but even the grown ups can’t help contain their excitement at the brilliant visualisation. The City of Zootopia is simply mind boggling! The entire city is subdivided into six zones and the visual effects for each part is carefully thought out and crafted. Stereotypes of why small can’t be powerful and why sly can never be trustworthy are dealt with in a manner that will make kids question and understand.
Yes, at the core of it, the moral of the story is to believe in yourself, but we need to stop a moment and think about just how well this cliched lesson has been presented. Supporting cast of voices include Shakira (as Gazelle), Idris Elba (police chief), JK Simmons (as Mayor), Kristin Bell (sloth) and many others.
A movie about mammalian utopia, Zootopia is a must watch for everyone young and old and we can’t wait to see what else this summer has to offer.
