So you thought geography starts only in secondary school and its not important any more or did you think children don’t know boundaries so cities, countries & continents don’t matter. You will be surprised! I was.
My daughter took  the globe on our family vacation, at a relative’s house where she kept spinning it as she was fascinated by the colours & the shape. In my attempt to get some food into the system I started spilling out all the geography I knew and at the next meal I was surprised that she knew which one was India, Australia & America. Those 3 are important as we we stay in 1 and the other 2 we have cousins in. Like any proud mom I was beaming, ” wow my daughter knows continents and she is only 2″ or ” yeah talking to the walls sometimes helps” or ” every time that I was trying to teach you but you ignored me royally, has finally paid off.”
Get a globe that is not too big, not too tiny that they cant read or see clearly. You could either get a ball so it could serve a dual purpose or get a globe that sits pretty in your living room. Please do not invest in a fancy one, with kids you never know the fate of their toys.
Start with basics like different continents, showing them land & water, where their cousins or relatives or friends stay, where you went for a holiday. Try to make them relate it with something it will aid memory. Show them the city they live in.
Lesson learnt, never underestimate kids, they will always have a trump card and discover as much as you can with them.
