At a time when parents are pressured to do more and more to assure their children’s academic success, why not introduce books at such times. Reading at home is a habit that you must introduce to your child because books are a great foundation.

Kids who read 4+ books do better in comprehension tests.

But we hear many parents complaining that they don't know to get their kids to sit in one place and enjoy a book. They don't know which books to buy for them – that would get them interested.

Here's what we recommend:

  • Make reading a book a reward and not a punishment. Make it enjoyable and not study time.
  • The earlier you start and the better it is. You can start reading a book when they are a few months old.
  • Make a routine and stick to it. For example, we ensure reading before going to bed and make it a family routine – so we can bond together.
  • The mistake most parents make is that they don't talk to their child about the book they read. It helps them understand the book better and a great way to bond with them.
  • We couldn't agree with Sudha Murthy more when she said gift books to your child on every occasion on KSP TV.
  • Reading is important because you are raising a lifelong learner.
  • Always opt for age-appropriate books that are recommended by a reliable source – we have tons of recommendations in KSP Summer Fun Factory.

Make sure you continue reading through this summer when the kids are stuck indoors because 1 to 3 months of reading skills can be lost over summer. Sign up for KSP Book Club to get recommendations every Saturday.
