Mommy has other interests too

So I quit my job as Head Marketing & Communications of an international fashion brand to be with my daughter. No point thinking about what people thought of me when I made that decision. If you are still curious, well they thought I was mad and probably crazy to quit such a fun and glamorous job like that. Well in my mind the decision was made and I have no regrets. I tell this to all moms who want to decide on taking a break, sabbatical or quit completely or actually try their hands with something else. Don’t do it till you are absolutely sure and till its a huge sacrifice in your mind. When it becomes a sacrifice its not worth it. If its not a decision then its just the perfect time.  Anyways I will leave this for another day but I have just a had a fun weekend and though its completely off babies I thought its quite mommy!

So I am a mom but I have other interests too. I did not sign a bond or something saying I will give up my life, hobbies interests and some ‘me time’ doing actually nothing when I have a baby. I did not sign up for no movies, chick flick comedies or my girls night out when I conceived. This is what I felt like telling all those people who stared and glared at me while I browsed through my favourite fashion magazines yesterday at Crossword.

I absolutely enjoyed reading the latest issue of Vogue with Kajol on the cover. Somewhere with a 3.5 year old to entertain and the second one just 15 days away maybe I felt or realized that I as ageing too. Or maybe it was just that you don’t see kajol on the cover of too many magazines so you are just looking forward to seeing her and reading about her. Maybe that’s an insight for a lot of fashion magazines. Give us covers with not the regular beauties, we like reading about beauty that’s delivered 2 babies and still looks gorgeous.

I loved reading through the younger fashion magazines like Grazia & Elle too. Yeah they kind of highlight so much of fun street fashion that I wanted to feel young too. I read through some interesting marketing journals, some nutrition books and just the latest ones on the block. There was a strong need to do something that I like. Yes I was watching my daughter, I was involved, she was happy browsing her books and I was happy browsing mine. Please stop being judgmental as always. I love de stressing while watching some reality shows, Keeping with the Kardashians is my favourite. Again please don’t judge me I said destress remember.  I love taking time off to paint my nails, read some Filmi gossip,  browse through fashion and lifestyle blogs. I love checking out shopping websites even though I currently fit into nothing.

I love going for my walks without my phone and listening to my favourite songs, driving around town and listening to the radio and not nursery rhymes all the time. I love dressing up and matching my bags and shoes even if its just for a casual cup of coffee with the man I have been married to for the last 7 years. I love being part of conversations with men where they talk economy, business & politics. Don’t write me off because I am a mom, I follow it too. I love to know the latest in technology so I can work more efficiently. I am more than hormones & mood swings. I clearly am a better manager, try managing  a 3 year old if you are so good 🙂 . He is definitely a tougher boss than yours. I love to be clicked and not click all the time.

So all those people who think motherhood means baby, baby and only babies let me tell you that I am a woman first and moms have other interests too…. A better, happier & fun woman makes a fun mom…
