Product Review: CQKids Games, Designed To Tap Into Your Child’s Creative Side

CQKids is a new line of games designed specifically to tap the creative quotient of a child and guarantee hours of fun playtime for them. Founder Suchitra Bapat used her love for word puzzles, arithmetic, and board games to design a line of board games that are sure to create a balance between the freedom that childhood thinking offers and the structured lives of children today. We really like the thought process behind taking seemingly classic games like Bingo and converting it into a board game called Bin-On-The-Go that kids who are constantly on the move these days can actually play while in the car! About Time is one of my favourites, based on the concept for a child who is still learning to tell time but parents can move the reusable magnets around so kids can learn to associate a particular hour with a task such as eating or going to bed.

Remember those times when we were forced to be indoors because of the rains and we would pull out our trusted board games like Snakes and Ladders, Ludo, and Monopoly? Nowadays games have changed and how! Board games to match every age, mood, and setting have flooded the market. But while most of them are hopelessly based on some television character or show, there are some that are so worth checking out for your child.

CQKids is a new line of games designed specifically to tap the creative quotient of a child and guarantee hours of fun playtime for them. These games are designed not just for children but make sure parents can join in the fun too!

Founder Suchitra Bapat used her love for word puzzles, arithmetic, and board games to design a line of board games that are sure to create a balance between the freedom that childhood thinking offers and the structured lives of children today. Having worked for eight years in the IT industry, she uses her skill set to design games that she knows her children will enjoy.

Some of the games that are available are Bin-On-The-Go, Bag O Tales, Foxed, How In The World, etc. Each one of these games has a catchy name and is designed for audiences from a particular age onwards. We really like the thought process behind taking seemingly classic games like Bingo and converting it into a board game called Bin-On-The-Go that kids who are constantly on the move these days can actually play while in the car!

Foxed is a game that helps children learn and hone their skills of multiplication and factorization. A challenging game of strategy and arithmetic that makes learning math not that boring. A special mention to how seamlessly she has integrated each concept into play.

CQKids has been in the market only for a few months and as a startup there are a number of things they are doing right and lots that we are sure will improve on their journey hereon. They have a number of tools that help kids with day to day activities like telling time and daily activity charts. About Time is one of my favourites, based on the concept for a child who is still learning to tell time but parents can move the reusable magnets around so kids can learn to associate a particular hour with a task such as eating or going to bed. Anybody senses getting them out of the door easier? Well let’s hope that repeated use will ensure timeliness, punctuality and a sense of responsibility where the child is well aware of what time is best suited or planned for.

With Win it To Pin It, parents will get a set of badges that are given to kids every time they do something to earn it. The idea is to reinforce and encourage positive behaviour but with our kids exposed to myriad ways of gratifying with smileys, stickers and stars will the badge lose its sheen?

Star Chart which is again aimed at rewarding your child for good behaviour is nothing more than a printable that is an easy DIY. What make sit different is that it has a magnet inbuilt so it may just reduce your hunt time for magnets and sits without the missing magnets neatly on the fridge.

KSP’s Thoughts:

  • As a startup CQKids has a number of great ideas of integrating behaviour, skill sets and engagement in a fun manner.
  • The prices of the games seem a bit high for their quality and maybe hard to justify. The games and activities need to be priced a lot more competitively.
  • Parents can join in the fun! Games are designed to appeal to a wide age range and parents can feel free to jump in and have fun!

We will definitely keep our eyes on this one because we are keen to see what they come up with next and how simple learnings are translated into fun engaging activities.
